Great Stuff Mobile Catering Championship
West Cork MCC, hosts round two of the Grasstrack championship.
Sunday saw the West Cork Village of Ballinascarthy host round 2 of the Great Stuff Mobile Catering Grasstrack Championship promoted by the South Western Group. The Event, which was hosted by the West Cork Motorcycle Club, had over 200 riders pre-registered for the Championship take to the green fields of west Cork. Off-road motorcycling is now a pastime for a growing number of people. This is reflected in the West Cork Motorcycle Club commitment to develop a new track in Skibbereen. The New track will be open for racing in the next month.
Thankfully the rain stayed away on Sunday and the dry conditions allowed for fast racing. Once riders had settled themselves into the paddock, completed sign on/scrutiny, it was down to the main business of the day. The riders were all revved up and from the off the event provided very fast and thrilling racing.
In the Expert Class, Cork rider Brian O’Connell ran away with 3 race wins.... In the 125 cc 4 Stroke Aaron Beausang fought hard all day with Christy Harnett. Beausang securing the overall win. East Cork rider Aidan Beausang who’s recent return to racing following an Injury, returned in style, taking the overall win in the 125CC 2 Stroke class.
In the Small Wheel 85CC class James White and James McCarthy battled all day, White taking the win in race 1 & 2. Race 3 saw McCarthy and White continue their battle, White dropped the bike on turn 2 and handed McCarthy the lead. However White who fell to fifth position, wasn’t going to hand the lead to McCarthy that easily and cut through the field like a knife through butter and by the last lap White had McCarthy in his sights, with the large crowd cheering both riders on, White cut inside McCarthy in corner 4 to take the race win and overall 85 CC class win of the day.
Next weekend the Youth riders travel to North Dublin for round 4 of the MCI Youth Motocross Championship. Judging by the recent form of riders next Saturday will surely be a exciting event as the 2007 Championship gathers pace and riders battled for the all important championship points.
